I have been a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) since 1986, and over the course of these 40 years, I have worked in a wide variety of settings, including private practice, jails and prisons, hospice, community mental health clinics, and the Body Electric School.

My current primary focus is on psychedelic integration services, and mentoring and consultation services for those working in the psychedelic field — individually and in groups. I also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, I work with psychedelic medicines with people at the end of life, and I teach about the safe, intentional, psycho-spiritual, mystical, therapeutic, and ceremonial use of sacred psychedelic medicines. Additionally, I offer retreats and training facilitation for individuals, couples and groups in Jamaica, Costa Rica, and other places where it’s possible. You can learn more about these topics on the “Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy” page here on my website.

In all of my offerings, I believe, as Rumi said, in the power of transmuting pain into medicine. I bring the lens of personal responsibility, accountability, and commitment to repair to my work and life. We are called to carry a heavy load in these perilous times, and I believe we can do so only within the power of the circle, community, and the group consciousness field that holds us, loves us, and teaches us how to be better humans. When together we hold the vision of a present and future world of healing, inclusion, and expansion for all our relations, we become conduits and stewards for hope and potentiality. To do so, I also believe that we must foundationally focus on dismantling the systems of misogyny and racism we live within and that live within us for the liberation and freedom of us all.

As Toni Morrison said:

“The function of freedom is to free someone else.”

I hold this sense of responsibility within me deeply and fiercely. So let’s sing and dance, fall down and get up, fall down and help each up — over and over and over again, pray with our bodies, heal with our words and actions, love with our open, undefended hearts, and expand together with our soul’s guidance.

Other Work that Continues to Inform and Inspire Me

My previous work of many decades as a hospice social worker, most of them at Hospice of Petaluma has deeply informed me about living life with intention and clarity; and my work as a psychotherapist has taught me about how reparative and transformative the healing container of that relationship can be. I also worked for years at San Quentin where I co-facilitated Restorative Justice groups for incarcerated men serving life in prison, which has shown me the power of mercy, redemption, and forgiveness.

My work at the Body Electric School catalyzed in me both a deep celebration of the sacred life force energy of Eros that moves through us all, and the extraordinary repair that is needed to address the extraordinary ruptures of abuses of power. For me, it is nothing less than a reclamation and celebration of our sovereign birthright to embodied joy and pleasure. That’s the healing, right there!

Additionally, I am a life-long memoirist and solo performance artist. I have performed several one-woman shows over the last several years in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and beyond.

I am also an amateur photographer and great lover of poetry; and I recently completed and printed a collection of three volumes of my favorite poetry, along with original photographs from my world travels. Reach out if you’d like to purchase some copies. The Way It Is copy
